Position Title: Medical Lab. Tech/Scientist
Reports to: Lab Manager
Work Location: Tema Community 9

Position Summary:

Perform routine medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease. Responsible for operation of the laboratory.

Essential Functions:

To accomplish this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations

1. Perform technical laboratory functions including chemistry, hematology, urinalysis and immunology
2. Report test results following standard protocols alerting providers and about abnormal results.
3. Ensure quality control in collecting specimens, ensure appropriate sampling and maintain accurate record keeping.
4. Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies. Set up, maintain, calibrate, clean, and test sterility of medical laboratory equipment.
5. Comply with all laboratory policies and OSHA regulations related to safety, cleanliness and infection control.
6. Serve as a back-up to the Lab Manager as needed.
7. Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

• BSc (Medical Laboratory Science), HND or Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences.

Certification and Licensure: AHPC License Required

Work Environment:

• Environmentally controlled laboratory environment
• Fast paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent situations
• Frequent exposure to bodily fluids and other specimens common to laboratory and medical office environment
• May wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves or a mask
• Frequent interaction with a diverse population including team members, providers, patients, insurance companies and other members of the public
